Nolana enjoyed practising her shape-shifting powers, so she saw this as an opportunity to do so. It wasn’t about showing off, after all she was not too fond of being the centre of attention, it was just the way it made her feel. There was nothing quite like it, changing the form of your body. It felt like each time she was reborn, with infinite freedom.
As discretion was needed, the elf chose to adopt the form of a moth. She would have gone for a fly or something even smaller, but they were dangerously fragile creatures.
She flew at a safe distance from Chris and Anastasia, where she could still listen to what they were saying.
“… can be fun at times,” the girl was saying, while playing with her hair in a flirty way. “ Yes I must agree. It is rather… fun,” Chris replied, with a grin forming on his face. “But what do you define as fun?” She raised an eyebrow. “… Would you like me to show you?” Chris’ grin was now up to his ears. Anastasia just laughed out loud and kept walking.
Nolana was busy transferring what she had heard to the other girls – she could have sworn Nailah let out a silent growl – when everything went black. She flapped her moth wings in confusion, but they hit some kind of wall. It felt like she was between someone’s hands. The panic that had swept over her prevented her from shifting her form. Instead, she acted like the clueless animal she had transformed to.
“Nolana, calm down. I wish you no harm,” a female voice sounded. If she wasn’t mistaken, it belonged to Ms. SD. The elf immediately stopped trying to break free and stood still. Soon enough, the hands opened and revealed the headmistress staring down at her. Nolana hurried and adopted her human from once again.
“Yes Miss?” She asked, her voice still a bit shaky from the shock. “When you are done spying on your classmates, can you tell your friend Tundra to come to my office?” Samantha demanded. Nolana blushed. “Yes Miss,” she nodded twice. “Off you go then,” she said, pointing to where Nailah and Tundra were standing. Then she added, “Oh and do just call me SD.” Nolana nodded again and headed back to her friends.

Choethel paced up and down the garden, just by the lake. It was lunchtime, so there was barely anyone out there. Only he didn’t need to eat. He needed no food, no sleep, no water. Of course he still enjoyed doing so, now and then, but it was one of the many things that made him so different from everyone else.
I wonder what Tundra is doing right now, the thought suddenly popped into his head. As soon as he realised it, he shrugged it off and instead concentrated on how blue the water of the lake looked, when it was reflecting the sky.

Tundra and Nailah waited quietly for Nolana's return, though Tundra suspected Nailah felt a little intimidated by the elf, they both knew that she was a good person, and a very useful one to befriend. Nailah seemed comfortable with being able to hear Nolana's voice inside her head, but it scared Tundra a little, her mind was her sanctuary, and the idea that somebody could enter it unnerved her... Suddenly, the relay of information ceased, and their heads were left empty of voices.
"What happened?!" Nailah asked, anxious. "I-I don't know.." Tundra shook her head, as if to shake out any remnants of Nolana's prescence.
"Guys!" Nolana jogged towards them, a little pink, but not from physical exertion. "What happened?!" The girls enquired. "I was- intercepted..." Nolana seemed a little embarrassed. "By whom? How could they have known it was you?" "It was Ms SD." "Ah." Nolana brushed herself down. "Yeah I know...oh by the way Tundra, she wants to speak to you." Tundra's eyes grew wide with anxiety. "Why? What have I done?" She wondered whether it had anything to do with going out of practice bounds, or worse, their little venture with Cho and the others. "She didn't say, but, I'd hurry if I were you, SD is not the sort of person you want to mess with." Nailah turned to glance at Tundra, "You'll be fine, don't worry about it!" She grinned at her, and patted her back, as if to send her on her way.. "Oh. See you guys later then?" She turned and began to walk, "Let's hope so eh?" Nolana joked..but it did nothing to soothe Tundra's fears.

SD waited in her study - she refused to call it "office" - for Tundra to arrive. She did not like what she was doing but there weren't many other options. Complaints were arriving from all over the world, as soon as word spread about the girl and the school's reputation was at risk. There was finally a knock on the door and Samantha invited the person on the other side in. Soon enough, a very worried-looking Tundra took a few steps hesitantly towards her. SD sighed - the girls had a good reason to be worried too.
"You wanted to... see me?" she said in an unsure tone. "Yes Tundra i did. You may want to sit down for this." The girl's eyes widened. She sat. "How did you get here?" Samantha questioned. Shock crossed Tundra's face for a second. "Like everyone else i suppose. Using the D-SD underground. That's what the letter instructed..." "So you got a letter?" She studied her anxious expression. "Of course. The one that came with a pineapple, right?" SD nodded. Tundra was now confused. "Is something wrong?" "It is rather strange i admit. The letters are sent by magic, they never tend to be wrong. But i suppose there is always an exception," she said, looking away indifferently. The feeling of worry returned to Tundra, stronger this time. "What?" She managed to mumble. "Do you have any magic powers?" Samantha was once again staring at her. "Well... no, but my glider-" "And are you aware that this is a school of magic and not of gliders?" Tundra swallowed hard, trying to avoid her gaze. "Yes..." she whispered. "I am truly sorry Tundra. If it were in my power, i would have you stay here just the same, but people have been complaining about this. They claim that i should either keep this a strictly only magic school, or let other non-magical children in too. And we can't have that." SD did not try to hide the sadness in her voice.
The knot in Tundra's throat made it impossible for her to talk so she simply nodded. "You need to pack your belongings as swiftly as possible," she explained. Tundra flinched. "Already? You won't even let me finish the year? The term?" The girl gritted her teeth and fought back the tears. "They will not tolerate you staying for much longer i'm afraid. Two days at the most." "Two... days?" It was now too hard to keep those tears under control. One rolled down her soft cheek. She lowered her head, trying to hide it. "But i finally belong somewhere... and i have to leave?" Samantha closed her eyes and took in a deep breath. "That's the point Tundra. You don't belong here."

Tundra couldn't believe what she was hearing. She didn't know whether she was angry or sad... Sad. Overwhelmingly so; so strong that she couldn't even shout. So strong that she couldn't even ask the questions that were burning inside her. She stood up, sharply, and began heading for the door. "Tundra, Tundra!" SD called after her. She didn't stop. She slammed the door behind her ferociously, startling what few students were still hanging around the halls; afternoon class had already started. Tundra steadily ran towards the dormitries, but tears blinded her vision, so she tripped on an ornate rug, and smashed her head against the stone stairs. "O-o-o-owwww." She sniffed, trying not to cry, further but it hurt. She clasped her hand to her head, realising she was bleeding; but she didn't care, she just wanted to get out of this wretched place. She managed to stumble up to the dormitary door... but of course, as it was lessons, the outer door was locked; and she couldn't get in without one of the older students pass cards. Tundra sunk to the floor in dispair, and began to sob, clutching her bloody head all the while, not wanting to drip blood all down her clothes. Questions circled in her head, making the throbbing even worse. She tried to ignore them, but one stood out, impossible to ignore.
"Then why..?"

Cho had found the girl curled up in a ball, on the floor, while he was heading to one of the libraries. Of course he couldn’t just leave her there, so he tried to comfort her. Then Tundra had told him what had happened through a river of tears.
“She did what?” Stormed Choethel. Tundra shook her head. “I… I should go pack…” she whispered, not wanting to cause a scene – or rather, an even bigger scene than before. “You’re not going anywhere,” the Sprit’s eyes sparked. “I am going to have a little chat with Samantha.” “You can do that?” Jumped Tundra. She felt incredibly glad that someone was sticking up for her, but she didn’t want to cause any trouble. “Just wait and see…” And with a smile, Cho left the girl and rushed to SD’s study.
__________
Nolana and Nailah decided to go look for Tundra – they hadn’t seen her since SD had called for her, she didn’t even make it to class. The girls stumbled upon her while on their way to their dorm and rushed to her side, all curious. “She wanted me to leave… Something about me having no magic powers…” Tundra felt her eyes water as she explained. As she saw the sad, shocked looks her new friends gave her, she continued, with a slightly lighter tone. “But Cho said he’d talk her out of it… Don’t know how…” “Wait, he can do that?” Nolana raised an eyebrow. “That’s what I said,” laughed Tundra lightly. “So anyone care to… stop by… SD’s study? Just to see what's happening... In a very discrete manner?” Nailah let out a grin, signifying that – as always – she was up to no good.

After Chris had talked with Anastasia, he noticed it was getting late and headed off to the dorms. He didn't expect to bump into Nailah, Nolana, and Tundra.
"Oh, hey, what's up?" he said to them casually. They looked a bit on the shocked side. "Hey, Chris I thought you just went to the bathroom? You never came back though," Nailah said
Chris kept on a straight face, but in his head he was saying "shit" a hundred times a minute.
"Oh.. I met... a friend on the way back... an old friend," "Chris don't lie, you don't have any friends, besides us," Nailah said "I do so. You just don't know him," "Oh so it's a guy," "Yes, I think that's why I said him," Chris said convincingly "Oh, is that so. Well we were just off to SD's study. You wanna join us, or go talk to your 'friend'" "Well seeing as I'm here, I think I'll go with you all,"

“What you are saying in an insult to me, do you understand that Samantha?” They could hear a male voice saying, or rather, growling. There was no doubt it belonged to Cho. “Can you think of a better way to explain it?” Principal SD answered back. “I channel the magic that sends those letters. There is no way for them to be wrong. I will not let you do this!” Stormed the man. “Will not? Are you forgetting your position Choethel?” SD was getting angered. “I am perfectly aware of MY POSITION! Are YOU?” Cho was nearly shouting now. “Calm yourself! There is no need to react in such a way over a girl.” Did SD sound a bit shaken? No… it must have been their imagination.
“Who is this guy?” Whispered Nolana, amazed that someone would talk to SD in such a way. “I don’t know but whoever he is, he seemed to know the principal pretty well,” Nailah whispered back. Tundra didn’t care about who he was… all she cared about was the fact that that boy was standing up for her.
“This is not just about some girl Samantha. This is about what’s right and wrong.” “And who gave you the right to define such things Cho?” There was a sound of an object violently hitting the wall and crashing into a million pieces. Tundra almost yelped in surprise. “AFTER ALL THOSE YEARS OF BEING TOGETHER, YOU DARE QUESTION MY JUDGEMENT ON SUCH TRIVIAL MATTERS?”
Tundra’s face fell as she heard that. Cho and SD were together? Well that explained a lot…
“STOP!” SD shouted back, but not in an angered manner. She sounded more sad than angry. “Cho… stop this… this fighting.” And then silence…
“What’s going on?” asked Tundra. “They’ve suddenly stopped talking,” replied Nolana quietly, stating the obvious. “No…” Chris suddenly spoke. “They are still talking. Only… in their minds…” “Telepathically? But why, all of a sudden?” “Because they know we’re here,” the boy replied in a flat tone. The girls’ eyes widened and the group hurried off, as far away from the study as possible.

"So how much trouble do you guys think we're in? Detention trouble, or expelled trouble?" Nolana said as they finally slowed down. "I would say... expelled," Nailah said, "What do you think Chris?... Hey, Chris! Where are you going?" "Well if you haven't noticed until now, I'm a guy, and there are different dorms for us, so I'm just gonna go get some rest and worry about expulsion later. You two can go have your girl talk now, since I'm leaving," "But Chris!, we need you to have girl talk!" Nailah said before sticking her tongue out at him "Good night, Nailah. And you two Nolana," Chris said as he turned around and headed up the stairs. Nailah didn't seem to pleased when Chris remembered Nolana.
In the boy's dorm, Chris took his usual place sitting by the window and looking out over the grounds absentmindedly.
"Hey, what are you doing here," one boy said, "Shouldn't you be in the girls dorm? Judging from who you hang out with all day long," "Oh, you're right. I mean, someone has to take your place over there," Chris replied. "What the hell does that mean?" the boy said confused, as a few others were keeping their laughter as quiet as they could. "What are you guys laughing at, and what did... Oh..." he replied as he finally got it. "You should get some sleep, figuring that one out must have gotten you tired," Chris told him
Wow, day one, over. I think this school thing is gonna be fun. he thought to himself.

The next day, early in the morning, just before breakfast, Cho met Tundra just as she was leaving the girls’ dorms. He threw a warning glance at the rest of the group she was with and they were smart enough to hurry on without her.
“Tundra,” he spoke, sounding rather neutral. “You will stay in this school. But you must put twice as much effort as the other students here are, I will have high expectations from you, do you understand?” Tundra nodded her head and, not able to contain the joy she was feeling, she let out a laugh. “Thank you Cho! Thank you so much!” “Don’t mention it. Seriously,” he smiled, but only faintly. “Off you go then.” “Oh… um.. Cho… about… yesterday… I mean… you know…” “You want to know in how much trouble you guys are in?” The boy raised his dark eyebrows and Tundra bit her lip. “As I said, don’t mention it. Any of it.” And so Tundra rushed off to find her friends.

Chris was sitting between Nailah and Nolana, both of whom seemed to be talking to him at the same time. Tundra decided to sit in front of him. He looked up and greeted her, completely ignoring the other two.
"Hi Tundra," he said before going back to his breakfast. "What took you so long?" "Oh. Nothing." She said "Oh, talking with Cho?" "What?! Why would you think that?!" she said, her cheeks turning pink. "No need to blush." "How do you know I'm blushing, You didn't look up." "I don't have to." He stated. "Oh, whatever," she said. "I have herbalism next, what about you all?" "If Nolana has herbalism too, that would make all four of us." Nailah said. "Wait a second, how do you know what classes I have?" Chris said. "Well obviously I took your schedule. It's not as if you were guarding it or anything. You just don't care, do you?" "Not really. Until I learned just now I have to take care of flowers. I refuse to attend herbalism,"

"What the hell am I doing in herbalism. I can't fucking believe I'm in herbalism. WHAT THE FUCK am I doing in herbalism?!?!?" "Chris, stop yelling," "I mean, it may have been somewhat alright if I could've gotten the carnivorous one, but noooo. Someone had to stop time and take it." Chris said. Nolana laughed evilly. "Chris, suck it up and water your pink roses," "Grrr... how the hell is this supposed to help us anyways?" "I don't care, seeing you in agony is always fun though," Nailah said. "Everyone shut up, teacher is coming," Nolana said. Nailah passed something to Chris which he hid in his sleeve.

“Oh my!” The teacher, Mrs. Greenpeace, gasped as she walked in the class. She was an old lady with a kind look on her face, and short curly hair, as white as snow. She was also… gravitationally powerful…
Nolana looked up in question. “What’s wrong?” She asked as Mrs. Greenpeace was looking towards her group.
“Who’s that boy who got the Deshas?” The teacher made her way towards them.
“The what?”
“The Desha plants! They look just like pink roses, but are one of the most dangerous herbs to ever exist. Be very careful with those!”
Nolana let out a laugh. “Careful? Are you serious? In what way could they be dangerous?”
“They are very delicate. If you don’t handle them right, they’ll release a powder that messes with people’s minds. They can make you believe you are a monkey, and they can make you kill yourself – you never know the exact effect they’re going to have, and that’s exactly why they are so dangerous. That and the fact that there’s no antidote and there’s no telling for how long the effects will last – maybe for a few hours, maybe for a few weeks, maybe for a few… years. So you be careful with that boy!”
“Yeah… be careful with your pink roses Chris,” laughed Nolana. “Maybe they’ll make you believe you are in fact a girl!”

"Forget this stupid plant," Chris said as he picked it up and walked around the room. "Wanna trade?" "No" "Wanna trade plants?" "Nah," "Hey, do you want to trade?" "Trade what?" "Plants," "No...." "Wann-" "No Chris, I don't want to trade," Anastasia said "Anastasia! You have this class too?" "No, that's why I'm here," "Right. Sorry," "It's okay, I can let that one slide," "Why?" "Cause you're Chris," "What's that supposed to mean?" "Oh nothing..." "Alright. Erm, so, What do you have there?"
Anastasia looked over her shoulder to see where the teacher was. She was busy trying to tell Nailah she was doing it wrong. Nailah looked like she was about to hit her. Anastasia smiled and turned back to her plant.
"I'm growing a mandragora," she whispered to Chris "What's that?" he asked. Anastasia sighed. "Herbalism, right. You don't know anything, do you?". Chris made no comment. "A mandragora is a plant that you can grow and it will become your guardian. Like a protector. It also has many other properties. It is believed to aid in conception and women who have become infertile. It's believed to have aphrodisiacal properties, and in hebrew it's name means "love plant"." After her explanation, she shot Chris a a look and a sly smile. "Uh huh. aiding in conception? Aphrodisiacs? Love plant? Why exactly are you growing one?" "I thought you of all people would know. I'm going to listen to it scream as I burn it alive." "I feel strangely-" "Chris! What are you doing there? Get back to your seat right now!" the teacher yelled at him. Needless to say he got back to his seat pretty fast. Nolana and Nailah didn't look too pleased.

Chris returned to his seat and was greeted with some very nasty looks from Nailah and Nolana.
"And what were you over there, might I ask?" said Nailah. "Just trying to trade my pink roses." "To a Phoenix girl?" Nolana asked "What better person?" "You were there an awfully long time if all you were going to do was trade plants." "Yeah, well we were discussing the nature of our plants." "Oh, and what is she growing then?" "An aphrodisiac." Chris said, as he shot Nolana a look. After a moment, she managed to say, "And what would she need to tell you that for?" "Why do you think?"
No one said anything, until finally, Nailah managed to say through her teeth.
"I don't know." "It's a mandragora," Chris said, finally finished toying with them, "She's gonna burn it. Should be fun to watch-" Nailah and Nolana both pushed Chris' face into his roses, and he got a face full of powder.
"Woops."
