“That’s just great” Chris said as he wiped the excess pollen off his face. Just as he finished cleaning himself up, the teacher let them out of class. He was complimented for his excellent care of the Deshas by the teacher when she saw them. He turned to look at the flowers, seemingly staring at him. They're mocking me he concluded.
He left with Nailah, Nolana and Tundra and headed down the stairs to the dining hall as they had an hour break.
“And that damn teacher,” Nailah said, her fists clenched, “had the nerve to tell me my Ice Lilies looked like they were under watered. THEY’RE MADE OF ICE.”
“Now now, better watch that temper,” a voice called out from behind them. They turned to see Anastasia sliding down the railing. “Getting hot-headed like that, you may not be able to stand the heat.” she mocked.
“And why do we have the displeasure of speaking with a Phoenix during our break” Nolana hissed.
“Oh, me? I just wanted to see if Chris wanted to join me in putting this mandragora” she said, dangling a shriveled plant in front of her.
“And what are you planning on doing with an aphrodisiac, Phoenix?”
“Aphrodisiac? I’m sure Chris doesn’t need that at all, isn’t that right,” she said as she grabbed his arm. He pushed her back into the group of girls.
“Ha, see, he doesn’t care abou-” Nailah said before she was interrupted
“Don’t touch an archdemon without permission. You are lucky I haven’t chosen to smite you where you stand.” Everyone was silent for a moment.
“Oh!, you mean smite as in charm! Well I’ve already-”
“No, I mean like this” he replied coldly as he threw a fireball at her. Having a superior command over fire, she swatted it with her hand, causing it to explode, covering the stairs in smoke. Nailah jumped at Chris and hugged him.
“That’s the Chris I love to see” He pushed her into the wall.
“You oblivious woman, have you not been paying attention?” Nolana pulled her out of the path of the next fireball.
“What the hell, Chris?” she yelled out. Nolana looked and expected tears, but only saw anger.
“Well it looks like your prank turned out pretty badly,” Anastasia said calmly.
“Prank?”
“The pollen of the Desha is making him think he’s a completely different person”
“Not completely” Nailah said softly.
“Then we’ll beat some sense into him.”
For the next few minutes, the stairs were filled with the sounds of fireballs and punches. Students took the long way around them to avoid getting caught by a stray ice shard or lightning bolt.
“What’s… wrong…” Chris panted. “You seem to be holding back… the only one who’s fighting seriously is Tundra, which is actually quite sad.”
“Don’t say that about Tundra!” Nailah yelled out and tackled Chris. The other three took the opportunity and attacked with magic. Chris tumbled down to the bottom of that flight of stairs, smoldering. He struggled up.
“What kind of archdemon can’t beat a few girls?” Nolana mocked. Chris just laughed.
“Excellent. This is a real treat, for all of us. I didn’t expect to need to resort to using my demon form.” Everyone was bewildered, save Nailah,, who had a look of sheer disbelief on her face. Chris produced a vial of red liquid, small enough to fit in his palm. Nailah’s eyes widened.
“You brought THAT to SCHOOL?!” she screamed.
“This school’s security is quite incapable.”
“I thought you quit”
“I say many things. Cheers.” he said as he lifted the vial to his mouth.
“Don’t let him drink the vial!” Nailah ran straight down to him, but he kicked her back into the other three and threw the vial into his mouth, glass and all, and chewed, ignoring the shards shredding his mouth.
Anastasia glanced over at Nailah. Her teeth were clenched and here eyes were filled with, undoubtedly, desire. She jumped on Chris and wrapped her legs around him and her lips around his. The three watched with differing emotions until Chris single-handedly knocked Nailah twenty feet over the spiral staircase’s railing. She released her wings and regained herself in midair. She held her stomach a little where he had punched her.
“Damn, you barely left any. I only just got a few drops.” she panted out.
“Great, are you going to turn like him too?” Anastasia called out
“No, I’m still me” she replied as she flew back to them. “I just lost control for a moment. That’s the real problem, though.” She pointed to Chris. Any injuries he had received were completely healed now, and he seemed to have regained his stamina. Oh, and his eyes had turned blood red.
“Beautiful, isn’t it?” Chris said as he bared his fangs at them and released his demon wings.
